Lake Superior
and the Northwoods
Sept. 22-27, 2026

The Ojibwe called Lake Superior gitche gumee, “the great sea.” Lake Superior lies directly north of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula; it’s the largest of the Great Lakes, with a surface area of 31,700 square miles. That also makes it the largest freshwater lake on the planet. The lake is 160 miles wide and about 350 miles long.
Join us in exploring Lake Superior and the Northwoods!
DAY 1 – Tuesday – September 22, 2026
Good morning, and welcome aboard! Our travels this morning take us through Wisconsin to the city of Eau Claire. Upon arrival we'll enjoy what use to be called Paul Bunyan Logging Camp, a re-created 1890's logging camp now known as the Wisconsin Logging Museum. Since 1934, visitors have been invited to step back in time to experience a time when Wisconsin Pine was filling our rivers and supplying a growing nation. Explore a real logging camp, learn about the men who lived in them, and learn about the trees that build cities across the country and put Northern Wisconsin on the map. You can even get your picture taken with Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox! From here we venture north through the beautiful lake country to the shores of Lake Superior. The next two nights will be in Duluth MN.
DAY 2 – Wednesday – September 23, 2026
Today, we set out to discover Duluth’s natural beauty, fascinating history, and artsy local culture, on a fantastic train excursion. The trip travels through downtown, along the shoreline of Lake Superior, through the historic Congdon Neighborhood wooded area, and then through the majestic Northwoods, crossing several stunning streams along the way, and crossing bridges that are over 50 feet high. The North Shore will also show us the Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls and more. Late afternoon finds us returning to the Duluth Harbor for an enchanting sunset dinner cruise. Savor a delicious meal while enjoying narrated harbor highlights, the panoramic city skyline, and the warm sunset reflecting on the glistening water. (Included Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 3 – Thursday – September 24, 2026
After breakfast and check out this morning we spend our last couple hours in Duluth exploring the Glensheen Mansion, a 20,000-square-foot Jacobean-style historic house museum on the Lake Superior waterfront. We tour this affluent estate to admire the beautiful architecture and timeless furnishings throughout its 39 rooms. From here we travel along the shore of Lake Superior to Bayfield where we’ll enjoy a narrated cruise past the 22 Apostle Islands featuring the historic Raspberry Island and Devil's Island Lighthouses plus the Devil' s Island Sea Caves. The next two nights will be in the Bayfield area. (Included Breakfast)
Day 4 - Friday – September 25, 2026
Breakfast starts our day off right before we board the ferry to Madeline Island, the largest of the Apostle Islands. Madeline has a permanent population of fewer than 200 residents and our guided tour will show us the history from the French explorers of the 1650’s, the life and times of the American Indians and much more. Late afternoon finds us ferrying back to the mainland where the evening is yours to enjoy on your own. (Included Breakfast and Lunch)
Day 5 – Saturday – September 26, 2026
This morning, we continue traveling along the shores of Lake Superior into Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. For lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to taste a regional delicacy – the pasty. Cornish settlers brought this hearty meat-and-vegetables pastry recipe to the Upper Peninsula in the mid-19th century, and it has been a savory staple ever since. Upon arrival in Munising this afternoon, you’ll enjoy breathtaking scenery of dramatic and colorful rock formations as they unfold before us on a cruise along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Keep watch for the most unique formations like Miners Castle and Chapel Rock! Overnight will be in Munising, MI. (Included Breakfast and Lunch)
Day 6 – Sunday – September 27, 2026
Our last day finds us enjoying breakfast before we begin our journey homeward. A stop will be made at Green Bay’s Titletown District located adjacent to the stadium. The full-size football field in Titletown District is an experience you won’t want to miss. One of the standout features is the field’s eco-conscious design; the infield is made from recycled Nike shoes. For lunch we’ll Grab a Bite at 46 Below, named after the legendary Ice Bowl when at the 1967 NFL Championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys, the temperature plummeted to a frigid -46°F with wind chill. Following our stop in Green Bay we continue our travels home arriving in the early evening with Great Memories of the Great Scenery, Great Food and Great People we have encountered in the Northwoods.
